David Greenlees, Viola
Born in 1965 in England, he first made a name for himself as a 9 year old Boy Soprano soloist with St. John's College Choir Cambridge. He studied violin and viola with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music in London. Between 1983 and 1987 he won prizes at viola and chamber music competitions. The Daily Telegraph enthused about his “wonderful expressive power”. From 1993 to 2003 he was solo viola with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and since 2003 has been deputy solo viola with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. In his free time he invents dishes based on Asian cuisine and loves - of course - football.

“I love music because it is a pleasure. It is like the deep satisfaction felt after enjoying a gourmet meal. A feast for the ears which is the true spice of life. The bubbling, effervescent sounds must simply melt on the tongue, giving rise to feelings for which no words exist, but about which one cannot remain silent. Music is to life what wine is to thirst: a pleasure. Playing in a string quartet is for me the highest of all the pleasures. Cheers!”
